Time For Some Upgrades? 4 Reasons You Should Get New Windows

If you're busy making a list of projects you need to tackle in your home, don't forget to add new windows to the list. Many people forget about their windows, when they think about upgrades for their homes. If you've forgotten about your windows, it's time to start thinking about them again. Here are four reasons why you need new windows.

Windows Won't Open or Close Properly

If you're not sure whether you need new windows, take a few minutes to open and close them. As windows begin to wear out, the frames can warp and crack. When that happens, you'll need to exert more force to get them to move. Unfortunately, when you exert force against a window frame, you can actually break the glass. If your windows aren't opening and closing properly, you should look into having your windows replaced.

Condensation between the Window Panes

If you have dual-pane windows, they're sealed together with a gasket that's designed to insulate the glass against moisture. When the seal breaks, condensation can build up between the panes. When that happens, it's a sign that the windows are no longer able to insulate your home against the elements outside. Not only that, but once the condensation has built up between the panes, they'll never look clean again, no matter how much you scrub them. If your windows have condensation, it's time to have your windows replaced.

Escalating Energy Bills

If your heating and cooling bills are escalating, it could be as a result of your windows. Outdated windows can prevent your home from being properly insulated. If you're not sure what your windows are doing, all you have to do is stand by the glass. If you can feel the exterior temperatures radiating in through the glass, you need to have them replaced as soon as possible. Once your windows are replaced, you should see your utility bills begin to go down each month.

Windows are Single-Pane

If your windows are single-pane, they should have been replaced a long time ago. Single-pane windows don't do an adequate job of protecting your home from exterior temperatures, or from intruders. Single-pane windows are too thin to provide proper insulation, and are easier to break, which makes your home vulnerable to break-ins. Improve the safety and insulating properties of your home, by replacing your out-dated single-pane windows with new dual-pane windows.

If your windows have outlived their usefulness, it's time to have them replaced with new vinyl, dual-pane windows. If you have questions or concerns about your new windows, be sure to speak to a window contractor near you, such as at Active Hurricane & Security Protection.
